The current timber market is a truly global affair. Wood remains one of the most important commodities and offers unique investment opportunities. As the global population continues to expand, and as economies around the world improve, demand for products from forest lands continue to increase.
Forestry investment is no longer seen only for its value in wood products. With increasing energy costs, the advantages wood has in construction and other uses compared to the main alternatives of concrete, steel, and even plastics, becomes apparent. The forest's ability to sequester carbon offers potential returns from carbon trading. The pressures of human development leading to deforestation and threats to many ecosystems around the world make productive, well-managed forests increasingly important in order to protect and preserve many plant and animal species.
IFI has been actively involved in locating, comparing, and assessing forestry and timber investments around the world for almost 20 years following many years of experience in the US Pacific Northwest.
